Raw hair behaves like natural hair because it is natural hair. Proper care is essential to maintaining the hair softness, longevity, and natural movement. With consistent and gentle maintenance, raw hair can last for years while maintaining its quality.
1. WASHING (Foundation of Longevity)
How often—
When product is build-up or when hair is becoming dry
What to use—
Moisturizing/hydrating shampoo (Sulfate-free)
Clarifying shampoo only when there is heavy buildup
How to wash—
Detangle gently before washing
Shampoo in a downward motion only
Comb with a paddle brush starting from the ends and working your way up.
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water
Raw hair tangles when mishandled, not because its poor quality.
2. CONDITIONING (Non-Negotiable)
Use a moisturizing/hydrating conditioner
Let sit 5-10 minutes
Rinse with cool water
Deep conditioning should be done as needed, particularly when the hair shows signs of dryness, brittleness, or reduced softness.
3. MOISTURE AND HYDRATION (Less is more)
Best practice after conditioning (while still wet)—
Hydrating spray
Lightweight oil to help seal in the moisture
Allow to air-dry if possible
Raw hair does not need daily oils. It responds better to light moisture than heavy creams.
4. HEAT SYLING (Use With Intention)
Raw hair handles heat well, but abuse shows fast.
Rules—
Always, always, always use heat protectant.
Avoid daily heat
If curls need touch up, use low to medium heat
Limit heat use and maintain with rollers.. heatless styles extend life
5. SHEDDING AND TANGLES (Setting Expectations Honestly)
